Who We Are
The Issues & Education Committee is dedicated to addressing critical issues that impact the quality of life in Reservoir Hill, advocating for justice and equity, and empowering residents through education and civic engagement. This committee plays a pivotal role in keeping our community informed, united, and proactive in tackling pressing matters that affect us all.
What We Do
Schools & Education: Support and advocate for local schools, including Dorothy I. Height Elementary School, and collaborate on community education initiatives.
Civic Engagement: Promote voter registration, track elections, candidates, and appointments, and ensure residents are informed about legislative issues that impact our neighborhood.
Advocacy & Justice: Monitor and respond to policies and proposals that affect Reservoir Hill, ensuring the voices of our community are heard and respected.
Our Fight Against the Frederick Douglass Tunnel Plan
The Issues & Education Committee is at the forefront of RHA's fight against the proposed Frederick Douglass Tunnel Plan and its alignment through Reservoir Hill. Despite being excluded from consultation—while other neighborhoods were included—we are standing strong against:
The Alignment path through our community, which was chosen without our input.
The proposed Ventilation Facility, planned to be built across the street from Dorothy I. Height Elementary School, posing environmental and health risks to our children and community.
We believe these actions are unjust and a clear violation of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The committee is actively researching legal and advocacy avenues to demand justice for Reservoir Hill.
