An Association is not required to be incorporated. Nevertheless, the Reservoir Hill Association (RHA) has submitted its application to the Internal Revenue Service for an Employer Identification Number (EIN), also known as a federal tax identification number, that is used to identify a business entity. RHA has configured its draft By Laws (on web site for review) with the expectation that, once the EIN is received from the IRS, RHA will submit its application for tax-exempt status under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service tax code. https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organizations/exemption-requirements-501c3-organizations We hope to receive the EIN within six weeks. The IRS response to RHA’s application for 501(c)(3) status is expected to take months. (IRS EIN application $170 + IRS tax-exempt designation application $275 = total $445.00)
